Barr Lake

We were fortunate to be able to attend another bird banding at Barr Lake. This time Andrew was able to join us. He loved it and was also able to hold a bird after they were done banding.

Our instructor who is a wealth of knowledge on birds
This week we saw lots of sparrows that are migrating through
In this picture you can see the small band she is holding that is placed on their leg.
Here she is blowing on their bellies to see how much fat they have. If they don’t have any they are usually native to Barr Lake. If they show signs of fat then they are packing up for a journey south. Birds only carry fat when migrating.

Leaf Peeping at Golden Gate Canyon

Unfortunately Fall never lasts long out here. And this could be the last of the leaf peeping for the season because a cold front is moving in Wednesday that could knock all the leaves down.

Today was a gorgeous day at Golden Gate Canyon on the Horseshoe Trail. The leaves seemed to be at their peak.
