35 Weeks

I’m starting into my 35th week today with only 5 more to go if everything stays on track.  The baby should weigh about 5 pounds and I can tell he/she is running out of room since the movements are much stronger than before.  Overall things are feeling pretty good but it’s becoming harder to do things like putting on socks and tying shoes.

We had another Lamaze class this week.  The classes are very informative on what to expect not only in labor but also at the hospital.  The instructor covered what is standard and what is offered by Huntington Hospital & staff. This week we had to pack a bag including a list of items that we would need for the stay at the hospital. These items include cotton socks, notepad with pen, stopwatch, mouthwash, tennis balls, music, camera and a focal point for which I chose a small souvenir of the Eiffel Tower (ahh.. Paris…). We watched a few videos (nothing visually difficult thank goodness) then practiced some relaxation & breathing techniques. All in all, I have lots to read and research over the coming weeks. Homework this week includes practicing relaxation (doesn’t sound so bad) and Dave has to identify and relax the tense areas. Some of these are just like you see on TV or read about, but overall I hope this will reduce some of the anxiety and confusion when it comes time.

Next week, a tour of the Labor, Deliver and Recovery (LDR) ward of the hospital. They take you through what to do when you arrive, I’m looking forward to that.

34 Weeks

I am in the middle of my 34th week (it’s just amazing how fast time is going now).  We had a busy and informative week full of baby classes for which the instructors were top notch.  A bit overwhelming at times, but we did learn a lot and still have 3 more lamaze classes to go.  Part of the class is a tour of the Labor & Delivery ward which we are anxious to see.

I had a great check up at the doctors last Friday.  The baby’s heartbeat was strong which is always a relief to hear.  The doctor said everything else looked normal and my next appointment is on September 24th.

We survived one of the hottest weeks we can remember in the time we’ve been in CA.  The weather is now finally back to normal and I hope it stays this way.  Although I haven’t had many reasons to complain this summer since it’s been relatively mild.

I have a busy few weeks left at work to get everything organized before I start my leave on September 24th.  It will be nice to have a few weeks off before the baby.  I’m looking forward to taking naps because sleeping isn’t what it used to be and it will also give me time to get few things done.

Happy Labor Day

We hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!  We are out here sweltering.  There should be a stronger word for how hot it is out here.  Yesterday, the temperatures reached 106.  It’s just too hot to do much of anything.  Our poor A/C unit doesn’t really cool the house down because it’s battling the outside temps.  We plan on trying to stay in as much as we can again today.  It’s even too hot to BBQ!!  They said this will last until mid-week.

We have a busy week this week.  We start our Lamaze classes on Tuesday and have a breast feeding class on Wednesday.  I have my 34 week doctors appointment on Friday.  I will let you all know how things go.

Enjoy your week!
